Our analysis confirms that simply by virtue of its size and 19 extremely low level of labor productivity, China's farm sector continues to weigh heavily in 20 China's overall economic advances. Labor savings have levied the largest influence on the labor 21 productivity on all sectors across all three study subperiods. We find that this transition is 22 highly correlated with capital deepening that accompanies China's opening up process. Still, 23 changes in the intra-sectoral shares and the intersectoral mix of China's final demand also have 24 become quite strong, especially in recent periods. Due to ever-increasing competitive pressures 25 as China continues to open, changes in industries value-added coefficients have tended to 26 counteract some of the positive benefits of labor savings for most sectors. The effects on 27 changes in labor productivity of technology change and changes in the use of imports have 28 been comparatively negligible and any variation in their sectoral effects waning over time Q2 . 29 © 2010 Published by Elsevier Inc. 30 JEL classification: 31 C67 32 F47 33 O11 34 O53 35 36

The Sources of Labor Productivity Growth in Norway, South Korea and Iran: A Structural Decomposition Analysis
Abstract In this paper, using a structural decomposition analysis (SDA) and the latest available input-output tables we investigate the sources of labor productivity growth in Norway, South Korea and Iran. Then, the contribution of each source in the growth of labor productivity is discussed. The results show that among six factors, value added coefficient is the most influencing factoracross al...
متن کاملDecomposition of Total Factor Productivity Growth of Pistachio Production in Rafsanjan Region of Iran
The stochastic frontier production model is one of the most used ways to estimate efficiency and productivity. The purpose of this paper was to decompose the sources of total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technological progress, changes in technical efficiency and changes in economies of scale. In this paper, we also used Divisia index in order to estimate production function. A random ...
متن کاملThe Sources of Aggregate Productivity Growth
The sources of aggregate productivity growth are explored using detailed data for four-digit U.S. manufacturing industries during 1958-96 and a decomposition formula which allows to quantify the contribution of structural change. Labor productivity as well as total factor productivity are considered and the aggregation is performed with either value-added or employment shares. It is shown that ...
متن کاملAn ethics-based decomposition of Malmquist productivity index using data envelopment analysis
Productivity growth and efficiency improvements are the major sources of economic development. Pure efficiency, scale efficiency, and technology are basic factors, and rules and regulations and balance are recently known factors affecting the Malmquist productivity index. The index is the most common productivity growth index that uses data envelopment analysis models over multiple time periods...
متن کاملTotal Factor Productivity Growth, Technical Change and Technical Efficiency Change in Asian Economies: Decomposition Analysis
The aim of this paper is to analyze total factor productivity (TFP) growth and its components in Asian countries applying Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to the time series data of 44 Asian countries from 2000 to 2010. Using Battese and Coelli approach, TFP is divided into technical efficiency change and technical change. TFP decomposition using SFA method for the years 1998 to 2007 indicate...
